LAHORE: An anti-terrorist court (ATC) on Tuesday granted pre-arrest bail to a suspect in Babar Butt killing case during the hearing.
A petition in the court was filed by the suspect, Habib, claiming that he had no links with the murder of former Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) contestant.
After the arguments, the court granted the accused a pre-arrest bail till March 24, 2017.
Babar Sohail Butt, a PPP ticket holder in 2013 general elections, was killed in a brazen gun-attack inside his home in Lahore last week.
The attack enraged many PPP leaders, including Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who demanded arrest of the culprits behind the incident.
Earlier, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) authorities had claimed to have arrested the prime suspect, Atif Jutt, behind the killing from Pak Pattan.
Babar Butt had previously contested the provincial assembly elections on PPP’s ticket in 2013. Three assassination attempts reportedly were made earlier on Babar before his murder.
