ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday suspended Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) verdict on dismissal of Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar as party convener.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan heading a five-member bench on Monday had ordered Sattar’s dismissal following an intraparty dispute on the headship.
Sattar had challenged ECP’s ruling on Wednesday in IHC terming it as a dark verdict. The hearing of the challenged ruling proceeded on Thursday where Sattar’s counsel presented his arguments.
Sattar had previously challenged the jurisdiction of the ECP through a filed petition which was dismissed by the ECP, nullifying the intraparty elections which had elected Sattar as party chief.
MQM-P had split into two groups after a party dispute over Senate elections nomination, resulting into formation of two groups consisting of Sattar led MQM-PIB AND MQM-P Bahadurabad group.
Farooq sattar in an informal conversation to the media said that the verdict is unjust and a price he’s paying for standing up to the founder of MQM.
