Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were shifted back to Adiala Jail after their five-day parole ended on Monday.
The three were flown to Rawalpindi via a special flight from the Lahore airport. According to sources, three members of the Sharif family, Hamza Shehbaz, Salman and Yousuf Abbas, were granted permission to accompany them inside the Lahore airport.
Nawaz’s younger brother, Shehbaz Sharif, was also granted permission to accompany them on the special flight to Rawalpindi, sources added.
Several PML-N leaders were present at Jati Umra when the three were taken for the airport.
Last week, the federal government released the trio on a parole after the death of former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz in London. She had been battling with cancer since August 2017.
Before leaving for the airport, the three visited the graves of Kulsoom, her father-in-law Mian Sharif and brother-in-law Abbas Sharif and offered fateha.
An accountability court had sentenced former premier Nawaz to 10 years’ imprisonment, his daughter Maryam Nawaz to seven years imprisonment and her husband Captain Safdar to one year in jail in Avenfield corruption reference filed against them in line with the apex court’s July 28, 2017 order. Nawaz was slapped with a hefty fine of £8 million pounds and Maryam for £2 million. There is no fine for Safdar.
