PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan scaled Miranjani peak in Galiyat, the highest peak in Abbottabad district, and said he was now ready to “conquer corruption in Pakistan from August 7”.
According to reports, Imran on Monday tweeted his photo with his sons after scaling the peak and said he had “conquered” the highest peak of Galiyat and was now ready to spearhead the anti-corruption drive across the country scheduled to begin from August 7.
The PTI chief has been pressing the opposition’s collective demand for forming an effective judicial commission to probe allegations regarding the prime minister’s family and their offshore holdings, which emerged following the Panama leaks.
Earlier in April, while addressing the gathering on PTI’s Foundation Day, Imran had announced the start of an anti-corruption movement in Sindh.
PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi had to later give assurances to Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khurshid Shah that the PTI’s anti-corruption drive was “not targeting individuals” and was launched in Sindh “by chance”.
In the run-up to the 20th Foundation Day celebrations, the PTI attempted to garner support from opposition parties for its plans for a ‘Raiwind march’ protesting against the Sharif’s ownership of offshore companies.
However, the PTI was on the back foot when, despite meetings with the PPP leadership, the opposition party shied away from committing to the march, with sources in the party saying they would not join hands with the PTI prematurely unless there was an inquiry by the judicial commission and international forensic experts.
Qureshi had met Aitzaz Ahsan, Khurshid Shah and Saleem Mandviwalla of the PPP, but Aitzaz at the time said the party was unable to commit to the PTI, as “the party has not shared their strategy”.
