ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms on Wednesday expressed its concern over cost overrun and inordinate delay in Lowari Tunnel project.
The committee, met here under Chairmanship of MNA Abdul Majeed Khanan Khail at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), also examined the monitoring and evaluation report on Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Power project, Tarbella fourth extension hydro power project and the Lowari Tunnel project.
The committee recommended that joint efforts be made tocomplete above PSDP projects within the contract period. The committee also directed that the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) may finalise draft amendments in PIDE Act, 2010 and submit for the approval of the parliament.
The committee also informed that vice chancellor of the FATA University has been appointed and recommended that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) may resolve the issue of Bhakkar and Mianwali campus of the Sarghoda University at the earliest.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal informed the committee that the university campus would be set up in each district across Pakistan. The meeting was attended by Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal, Dr Ibadullah, Dr Asma Mamdot, Saheen Shafiq, Shamsun Nisa, Qaiser Jamal, and Sher Akbar Khan.
The meeting was also attended by secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms and vice chancellor, PIDE officials along with the other senior officials.
